Getting On-Line For the First Time:

You have select Windows NT 4.0 as your system type.
If this is incorrect, please re-select your system type:

Windows NT Setup

Add Dial-up Networking (If not installed, or your PC has never been on the 'Net before.) - Please follow the steps in the order listed!

  1. Click on My Computer, select Dial-up Networking.
    • If 'The phonebook is empty' appears, click OK to add an entry and continue here.
    • If the the phonebook list and the option to dial appears, continue here.
    • Select Install, and provide disks or CD as required.
  2. The Add RAS Device window will appear. If you see your modem listed in the 'RAS Capable Devices' box, click OK.
    • If you do not see your modem listed, then you will need to install a driver for your modem as follows:
      • In the 'Add RAS Device' window, select 'Install Modem' to start the modem wizard. Windows NT will detect your modem automatically (recommended) when you click Next.
      • If Windows NT detects your modem, then proceed through the wizard.
      • If Windows NT is unable to detect your modem, you will then have to select your modem from a list or use a disk provided by your modem's manufacturer.
    • Select your modem and click Configure.
    • Make sure 'Dial Out Only' is selected, Click OK.
    • Select Network, TCP/IP should be checked, Click OK.
    • Select Continue in the 'Remote Access Setup' window.
    • After Dial-Up Networking installation is complete, click restart to reboot the computer.

New Dialup Networking Connection

  1. From the desktop, select My Computer, then Dial-up Networking.
  2. If you receive a message stating that 'The phonebook is empty', select OK to add a new entry. (If Dial-up Networking (DUN) already has other phone book entries, click New.)
  3. If the New Phonebook Entry Wizard window appears, check the box labeled 'I know all about phonebook entries' and click Finish.
  4. Under 'New Phonebook Entry' select Basic, then Check 'Use Telephony dialing properties', Uncheck 'use another port if busy', enter E-List under Entry Name, enter the Local Access number you are dialing.
  5. Now, under Dial using, select your modem, click Configure, set Initial speed (BPS) to 38400 if you have a 14.4k modem, 57600 if you have a 28.8k-33.6k modem or 115200 if you have a 56k modem, and select OK.
  6. Select Server, Dial-up server type = PPP: Windows NT, Windows 95 Plus, Internet
  7. TCP/IP should be checked, under Network Protocols.
  8. Enable software compression = ON and Enable PPP LCP extensions = OFF
  9. Under TCP/IP settings select Server assigned IP address and enter name server addresses, primary and secondary, from your setup information sheet.
  10. Primary WINS and Secondary WINS servers should be set to 0.0.0.0 or Disabled
  11. Use IP header compression and Use default gateway on remote network should both be Enabled.
  12. Select OK
  13. Select Security, and Accept any authentication including clear text.
  14. On the New Phonebook Entry window, select OK.
  15. You are now be in the Dial-up Networking program, and the phone book entry you just created should be highlighted in the Phonebook entry to dial field. Select Dial.
  16. Enter your username, password when prompted to. Matching the information exactly to your user information sheet. Do not enter anything under Domain. You may save password and username here, if desired.
  17. Click OK to connect to E-List, and get on the 'Net! After listening to your modem for a moment, you are now connected and using your E-List connection to the Internet.
