Windows 95 Dialup
Networking Setup
Windows 95 is very easy
to configure for the E-List service. If
you already have a provider, take a look through the existing settings
for that connection, before begining the reconfiguration below. It is
possible to have many 'Connections' preconfigured in your dialer, but if
your multiple providers do not ALL assign you DNS servers when you
login, you will have to list at least one DNS server. If this is the
case, for optimal performance, please make sure your primary service's
DNS servers are configured in your dialup networking.
Start by adding dialup
Networking (if your PC has never been on the 'Net
before.)
- Click on 'My
Computer'
- Then Control Panel
- Then Add/Remove
Programs
- Then on Windows
Setup tab
- Then on
Communications
- Then on details
- Then on Dial-Up
Networking
- Insert Windows disks
or CD-Rom as prompted
- Reboot computer when
prompted
Now Configure Dialup
TCP/IP:
- Click on 'My
Computer'
- Then on 'Control
Panel'
- Then on 'Networking
Icon' In the window you will see:
- TCP/IP Protocol
- Dial-Up Adapter
- Client for
Microsoft Networks
- Click on TCP/IP
Protocol
- Then on
'Properties' and set them as follows:
- IP Address =
Server Assigned
- WINS
Configuration = Disabled
- Gateway = Blank
(remove anything that is listed!)
- DNS
Configuration = Select Server Assigned DNS
- Bindings - All
items in this box should be checked
- Click
'OK'
- If you don't see the
above settings, start here, and repeat the steps above. --> Then
Dial-Up Adapter
- Bindings should
have TCP/IP checked
- Click 'OK' - Reboot
your PC, when prompted.
Now, your system
settings:
- Click on 'Start'
- Then on 'Settings',
select 'Control Panel'
- Then on 'Internet',
select 'Connection'
- Then on 'Use a
Modem' and 'Settings'
- Select 'Add' to add
a new connection named
E-List.net
- Select your modem,
and your local
telephone access number
- If you have call
waiting, add '*70,' in front of the local number, then Click 'OK'
- Enter your user ID
and password Exactly as they appear in your setup information
sheet.
- Dialup networking,
and your internet connection are now configured. Click 'ok' to close
this window. Select any application that uses the Internet, such as
Internet Explorer, and your system will dialup and connect to the
Internet. If you are always prompted for your password, this means
that you did not click the 'Save Password' box when first configuring
your connection. Unfortunately, the only remedy is to add a new
connection starting at #5 above, and remember to check the box when it
first appears.
