Building Your Web Site

Organizing Your Web Site

Before you start creating your Web site, it's a good idea to decide how you want to organize it.

A Web site is made up of a collection of Web pages. One common way to organize a Web site is to create a hierarchy of pages, with a "homepage" containing links to other pages. If these concepts are unfamiliar to you, please see our Web Browsing Tutorial, especially the section on How Web Pages are Organized on a Web Site.

For example, if you want to create a Web site about your family, you might create a homepage welcoming visitors, and then create separate pages for family news, photos, and upcoming events.

Spending a few minutes planning the organization of your Web site will save you time when you actually begin building it, because you'll know exactly what to put on each page.
