Building Your Web Site

Finding Graphics for Your Pages

As you build your pages, you'll want to make them pleasing to the eye so that your visitors will want to read them. Although all-text pages might be appropriate in some cases, readers generally prefer to read pages with visual appeal.

If you use a third party application to construct your pages, you may have access to that applications library of graphics. But even if you don't — or if you just want to use your own images, the Web offers plenty of free graphics and tools you can use to spruce up your Web pages.

Clip Art Galleries

So, you have a Web page about basketball and you want a basketball image to add some visual pizzazz. In situations like this, an online clip art gallery can be a great resource. These galleries have background images, buttons, banners, lines, and other graphic design elements that you can use in your pages. About.com: Web Clip Art has a great collection of free graphics, along with links to other clip art galleries.

Image Generators

If you need a customized image, like a logo, you can create it online at a site like 3D Text Maker and CoolText.com. These sites let you create images with personalized text, and you can adjust the font style, size, color, and other formatting.

Image Editors

Whether you find an image in a clip art gallery or you create one, you may want to tweak it further to make it just right for your site. If so, you can use an online image editor like myImager.com or GIFWorks. These sites can open images saved on your computer and alter them to your preferences.
