Learn how to save favorites
With Internet Explorer, you're
able to put your favorite Web addresses at the top of your
browser window—just under the Address bar. In
Internet Explorer 5 for Windows, this is known as the
Links bar, and in Internet Explorer 5 for Mac, it's the
Favorites Bar. To show the bar, select it from the
View menu.
To add a favorite to the
Links/Favorites Bar in Internet Explorer:
-
Open the Web page you want to
add.
-
Drag the Web page's icon from
the Address bar directly to the Links bar/
Favorites Bar or drag any link from a Web page,
your Favorites, or your Desktop.
-
The link will appear at the top
of your browser's window. Click on the favorite to open
the page.
Here's a common scenario: Imagine
that you've found a Web site that's packed with fascinating
information, stunning graphics, and a gold mine of essential
links. These links, in fact, are so great that you surf away
from the site without saving it as a favorite, thinking to
yourself "I'll remember how to get back." Well, what happens
when you want to visit the site again and can't find it?
If it was a page you've visited
recently, you can click and hold on the Back button
to choose from a list of sites you've visited, this is known
as the "session history." But if it's been awhile, or you've
closed your browser, Internet Explorer allows you to view
links to previously viewed Web pages in the History frame,
or History list.
If you're using a Mac, Internet
Explorer organizes the collection as a history by day. If
you're using Windows, Internet Explorer allows you to choose
the organization: By Date, By Site, By Most
Visited, or By Order Visited Today.
